Please Note:
- ** denotes Communion Sundays.
- Duty Elders are to be present at both the 09.30 and the 11.00 am services
Tasks of the ‘Duty Elder’
Before the 9.30am service/ 11.00am Family service
- Be at church at 9.00am and open the gates and front and back doors of the church
- Switch on electricity and lights
- Switch on the microphone system and check that it is working
- Have the radio mike available for the minister/preacher
- Put fresh glasses of water on the Communion Table and in the Pulpit
- Check that offering plates/bags are at the back of the church
When we are in the Newark St building
- Switch on reredos lights – switch to the right of the organ
- Light the candle in front of the Bible on the Communion Table (matches on the Prayer Desk)
- Place a glass of water on the stands in the side aisles
- Move the portable communion table to the carpet at the foot of the steps, and place two chairs behind it
When we are in the Union St building
- Unlock the disabled toilet (same key as outside hall door) before 9.30 service
- Put out 2 Traffic Cones on roadway in line with front entrance & check entrance is free of litter
- If necessary, put on Fire in Vestry (suitably guarded)
Before the 11.00am service
- Prepare hymn boards and hang up (Union St: see below)
- Set the markers in the lectern Bible at the readings for the day (Esplanade: see below)
- At the start of the service carry the Bible to the Lectern (Esplanade: see below) and open
at the first reading. Retire to place.
When we are in the Esplanade building
- Set bells at 10.50am
- No need to set the Bible marker
- Carry the Bible to the Pulpit and open it about the middle
When we are in the Union St building
- There is no need to prepare the hymn boards if the power point is being used
- Vestry door should be locked on leaving with the Minister
- Ensure both sets of fire doors at Halls entrance are secured before taking seat for service
During the 11.00am service
- In event of anyone becoming unwell, render whatever help is appropriate, if necessary calling for an ambulance. There are wheelchairs available in each building
- Inform Sunday School of start of last hymn
After the 11.00am service
- Take the lectern/pulpit Bible back to the Vestry
- Empty glasses of water
- Check that the sanctuary is tidy (orders of service, notices sheets not lying about)
- Switch off the microphone system
- Put the radio mike away
- There is no need to stay until after everyone else has left – the Welcome Team Banker will lock up
When we are in the Esplanade building
- Close the front and tower doors, switch of power and lights, lock the Retiring Room door
When we are in the Union St building
- Return Traffic Cones to vestibule
- Check both sets of fire doors are closed and secure, turn off lights and electricity in sanctuary
Baptisms
- Ensure that there is warm water in the font
- Put “Reserved” notices on front row for baptismal family
- Put white lectern fall and book-marks in place
- Lead parents into church to the reserved row when they arrive
- Escort parents out at the last verse of hymn after baptism
- After service, empty font and replace usual fall and book-marks.
Communion
- Check White Lectern Fall and Book-marks are in place.
