Young people in Inverclyde enjoyed an action-packed week at Lyle Kirk’s annual Summer Holiday Club in early August, this year themed On Your Marks, to follow in the international footsteps of the Olympic Games.
There were 49 children registered aged 4 to 12 for a week packed full of creative teaching, games, crafts, sports, songs, prayers and Bible reading. Club leader Pam Stewart, said: “We had a fabulous week, especially with all the buzz of the real Olympic Games, which were running at the same time. As well as being great fun, the young people learned a great deal too. Around 12 teenagers and 10 adults helped out, ably assisted by the behind the scenes team making tea, organising music and keeping the paperwork in order. Thanks to them all!”
Some of the highlights of the week included a barbecue and visit by two youth leaders, who told the children about their sporting experiences. Jonathan Glen spoke about running and athletics and Isaac Dunning about swimming for Port Glasgow Otters, with the children all eager to ask questions and learn more. The icing on the cake was when Olympic torch bearer Janice Hendrie arrived with her torch to meet all the kids.
