Andrew Sinclair was a former Session Clerk of the Old West Kirk in Greenock (now known as Lyle Kirk). He went out to Mombassa to work with the Africa Marine Company and has since retired there with his wife Eileen. They know Mrs Joan Smith who started up Tumaini Children's home, and reckoned that her cause was worthy of any donations forthcoming, and especially from Greenock.

So a collection point was established - the 'White Box' - on the radiator inside the main Church entrance at Lyle Kirk Esplanade in Greenock. The donations from the White Box are split between the Inverclyde Family Contact Centre and the Tumaini Children's Trust. When Andrew and Eileen return 'home' to visit family and friends they pick up the donations and take the money back with them to Mombassa and hand over to the Tumaini Children's Trust.

We have received the following note from Eileen Sinclair in Mombassa:

"Thank you for your letter. We are very grateful for the money the church has given the Tumaini Children's Trust. Over 10 years through collections raised from the 'White Box' the monies have helped orphans in Nairobi and Mombassa, always where they felt was the greatest need. In recent years nearly £500 has been sent to Kenya which converts to some 65,000 Kenya shillings. The children are well cared for and they also attend the church every Sunday and go to Sunday School. Thanks again to the Lyle Kirk congregation for their donations.

Regards

Eileen"

Thanks to all our members and visitors who have put money into the 'White Box' - we are sure the children at Tumaini in Mombasa are very grateful and we would urge you to make further donations to help this worthy cause.
