Grassroots at Lyle Kirk Union Street Building 30th August 2011 As our Presbytery Twinning moves towards congregation-congregation links, LK had a taste of the vigour and joy of Zimbabweans that shines through all their problems. Grassroots Theatre for Development uses wonderful music, dance and drama to spread love and respect for others whatever their situation. While here they wowed the students of the James Watt, the douce folk of LK, primary school children and staff at Ardgowan and Lady Alice and an enthusiastic audience of female and male prisoners and staff at Greenock Prison. From Governor down to tiniest P1 pupil, everyone wants them back next year! Take a look at their website to see what their great work empowering kids in rural Zimbabwe the other half of the year. http://www.grassrootstheatre.com/
A donation from the LK night goes to Presbytery's appeal for a borehole for Gloag High School - a Presbyterian boarding school with youngsters from all over the southern part country and a local primary day-school. Once flowing, it's hoped the water will allow the addition of a clinic for the care of the students and local HIV testing. People currently face a choice between the bus-fare to the Bulawayo Hospital and a square meal, essential if ARV drugs are to work. Thanks to everyone who supported the visit.
