St Andrew's Twinning News Update

2025 Rev Tafadzwa Kasere, the current minister of St Andrew’s visited and preached on SouperSunday, 2025.  He was in Edinburgh at New College for over a year on a Desmond Tutu Scholarship to study for a Master’s degree in Biblical Languages.

2024 Rev Stan Chatikobo and Victoria.  Stan’s now a missionary to the south of England.  He and his wife Victoria were thrilled to be in Lyle Kirk at last!  It seems a very long time since Margaret Foggie stayed with them at the David Livingstone school, or went with Stan to give home communion to a founder member of St Andrew’s.  She and her daughter were touched that Stan brought her the precious Greenock cup for the sacrament.

Our partner church is good at facing change.  First, back in 2006, tas then an all white congregation called the Rev Stan Chatikobo, their first black minister. He was much-loved and when he moved on, they called their first woman minister!  A  very distinguished  woman,  at that, the  Rev Lydia Neshangwe.  In 2018 we succeeded in receiving her - and she hit The Big Snow!  Only those nearby were able to meet her,  Lydia gave us the blue wall-hanging that greets us as we come into Lyle Kirk, Union Street.

When Owen our minister visited Bulawayo for St Andrew’s 50th Anniversary, he was shocked at the fuel shortages; then the price increased 300 per cent with the resultant rioting severely crushed. Now our friends tell us the floods that washed the crops out of the good ground have left the drought elsewhere untouched. Kariba is so low that electricity will be rationed with long power-cuts. The staple food sadza has trebled in price and supermarkets are emptying again.

Can Lyle Kirk help?
